Julianna Margulies, born on June 8, 1966 in Spring Valley, New York, grew up in New York, France, England and finally settling back to the States at age 14. After attending high school at the High Mowing School, Julianna Margulies took a course in Art History at the Sarah Lawrence College, where she discovered a passion in acting by participating in school plays. After graduation, Julianna moved to New York City to pursue a career in theater. Like most actresses starting out, Margulies juggled her work as a waitress and the appearances on theater productions and commercials.

Julianna Margulies made a film debut in the 1991 action flick “Out for Justice,” which was followed by appearances on various TV shows such as “Law & Order,” “Murder, She Wrote,” “Philly Heat,” and “Homicide: Life on the Street.” However, it was only in 1994 when she won her breakthrough role as the nurse Carol Hathaway in the TV drama “ER” that Julianna Margulies became a household name. Although her character was supposed to commit suicide at the end of season 1, Julianna Margulies wowed the show’s producers and the audience, which gave her a go on the show for six years. From 1994 to 2000, Julianna Margulies received an Emmy Award nomination for her work on the show. She reprised her role in 2009 for a two-part episode.

After winning two Screen Actors Guild Awards and one Emmy Award, Julianna Margulies left ER in 2000. She appeared on various films, including “Paradise Road,” “Traveler,” “A Price Above Rubies,” “The Newton Boys,” “The Big Day/We Met on the Vineyard,” “The Man from Elysian Fields,” “Ghost Ship,” and “Evelyn.” She also went back to her roots and appeared on theater productions, such as “The Vagina Monologues,” and “Ten Unknowns.” Other TV credits of Julianna Margulies include a stint on “Scrubs,” telefilms “Hitler: The Rise of Evil” and “The Grid,” wherein she was nominated for a Golden Globe award, the sci-fi series “The Lost Room” and HBO’s “The Sopranos.” She also starred on the TV series “Canterbury’s Law” in 2007 and appeared on the TV series “The Good Wife” in 2009.

Julianna Margulies married Keith Lieberthal on November 10, 2007. The couple has a son named Kieran Lindsay, who was born on January 17, 2008.
