Julianna Margulies began participating in theater productions while attending Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York. After graduation, Julianna worked as a waitress while appearing in various local plays and being featured in some commercials. She had her big break in 1991 when she played a prostitute in the Steven Seagal movie “Out for Justice.” In 1993 and 1994, Julianna Margulies landed a guest role in several TV series, including “Law & Order,” “Murder, She Wrote,” “Philly Heat” and “Homicide: Life on the Street.”

In 1994, Julianna Margulies landed her breakthrough role in the TV drama “ER,” portraying the nurse Carol Hathaway. In the first season finale, her character was supposed to be written off by making Hathaway commit suicide over a failed relationship with George Clooney’s character Dr. Doug Ross. Julianna Margulies managed to win the hearts of the producers and the audience, which led to a six-season contract. Throughout the show, Julianna has been nominated for “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series,” every year, but only won in 1994. Nonetheless, she received two consecutive Screen Actors Guild Awards for “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series” in 1998 and 1999. Julianna Margulies was also included in People Magazine’s list of “50 Most Beautiful People in the World” in 1998.

Aside from working on the set of ER, Julianna Margulies also took on various drama films, including “Paradise Road,” “Traveler,” “A Price Above Rubies,” and “The Newton Boys.” In 2000, after a six-year run on ER, Julianna Margulies left the show and appeared on the comedy flick “The Big Day/We Met on the Vineyard.” During this time, she also participated in various theater productions, including “The Vagina Monologues,” and “Ten Unknowns.” Julianna Margulies then went back to making feature films in 2002 and appeared on “The Man from Elysian Fields,” “Ghost Ship,” and “Evelyn.”

In 2003, Julianna Margulies guest-starred on a two-part episode on “Scrubs,” followed by the 2003 CBS telefilm “Hitler: The Rise of Evil” and the 2004 made-for-TV movie “The Grid,” wherein she was nominated for a Golden Globe award for ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role – Miniseries or Television Movie.’ After appearing in the 2006 film “Snakes on a Plane,” Juliana Margulies starred in the sci-fi series “The Lost Room,” followed by a role in the HBO hit series “The Sopranos.”

In 2007, Julianna landed a leading role in the legal drama series “Canterbury’s Law.” In 2009, Julianna Margulies went back to her roots and made a two-episode appearance on ER, reprising her character Carol Hathaway. That same year, she appeared on the film “City Island” and guest-starred in the TV series “The Good Wife.”
